The 70's suburb is Peltosaari has lot of social problems and an ideas competition was organized to develop this area with bad reputation. We created a new positive identity for the area by building a new ecological landmark building on the railroad. Increased building area and mixed functions help to keep the area alive and safe also in the evening. The Vantaa River that used to run through the area is brought back in the middle of the central park. The existing houses are renovated to passive house standards and clad with wood. Most apartments have private courtyards or roof terraces. The levels of privacy are clearly defined. There are high standard common green areas with rain water ponds in the middle of the building blocks. |
